Isaiah Webber
Isaiah's Snakebite

Eb,
The snake caught me in the grass just short of the cabin. Struck low and hard. I bound it and came on anyway, but you know as well as I do how that goes. I ain’t riding out of here.
I couldn’t leave the silver plain. Cabins like this don’t stay untouched as long as folks think they do. I give you my share of the silver. We took it together, and if I’m not riding out, then it’s yours to carry.
I hid it so no man could stumble onto it by luck alone. What I left behind will only make sense to you. If another finds this place first, they’ll read the words and go no farther.
I laid the trail through the cabin the only way I could. You’ll know where to begin.
After fire has eaten its fill,
that which smothers flame when left behind,
dust to dust.
